About the Pelvic Floor
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that form a supportive hammock-like structure at the bottom of the pelvis. It spans from the pubic bone at the front of the pelvis to the tailbone at the back and from one sitting bone to the other. These muscles play a crucial role in supporting the pelvic organs, controlling bowel and bladder function, and maintaining sexual health.
Pelvic floor issues can cause a range of symptoms, including:
- Incontinence
- Pain in the pelvis, low back, and even neck
- Painful intercourse
- Sexual dysfunction
- Pre- and postnatal issues
- Prolapse of the uterus, bladder, or bowels into the vagina
About Pelvic Floor Rehab
A pelvic floor rehab program typically involves a combination of exercises, manual therapy techniques, education on pelvic floor anatomy and function, and behavioral strategies to improve bladder and bowel habits.
